After my poor industry spend the last ten years getting wasted, it’s now stumbled out of the bar into the alley … only to have the RIAA pull a figurative gun.
US House Resolution 848 would swap the way radio pays royalties. Right now they radio pays a annual single blanket fee. If H.R. 848 passes radio would go to a “pay for play” system which would charge stations few bucks each time a single song plays.
It’s a system worse than they use for internet broadcasters. And that system is already so bad, it’s all but destroyed net streaming in the United States.
H.R. 848 would drive most stations into the talk radio arena, while the RIAA shoots its best promotional tool to make a few extra dollars in the short run.
