Buildings aren’t worth getting sentimental about. But it is sad to watch the old Smith’s store at Arbor Park Center disappear this past week. This was the grocery store I went to as a 5, 10, and 15 year-old growing up.
The owner of the center opened a new center down the street in 1999, cannibalizing Arbor Park. Within 5 years everybody, including Smith’s had moved away, into the new digs. That’s left this old store sitting empty for another 6 years since.
Frankly, I was surprised the building was still here when I got back from Oregon. I don’t know if the developer is planning to replace the building, or if he just wanted to reduce his property taxes. But, either way, the Smith’s is gone.
Wow. Infinity effect. More posts coming.
